Coco before her grooming
On July 13th I received a tearful call about a six month old female Airedale. The owner was worried that the pup, who kept nipping hands, arms, ankles and clothing, would manage to trip her 78 year old mother, who was losing her sight. This was their first Airedale, although they had had a Scottie and a Westie previously.

When I got to their house that afternoon, they seemed like sensible, normal, loving people! I sat down with them at the dining room table, so they could fill out the surrender form — and the puppy, truly, was like a piranha!! At first, she did response to my sharp "AGH!!" But very soon it became totally ineffective. I finally asked the owner to put her out in the yard until we finished the paperwork. I had never witnessed that bad a case of nipping/biting before - almost a frenzy - in 50 years of Airedales.

The pup was great in the car on the way to my house - and NOT ONE TIME did she show that mouthy behavior at my house. In the eight days we waited for her spay surgery, she became housebroken, quiet in her crate and pretty good on a lead. It was like I had an entirely different dog than the one I picked up.

A few days after she was spayed, Coco was moved to her new, Airedale-experienced home - and a couple of days later, her owners ecstatically described her as a completely normal, beautiful pup... which began the moment she left that first home.
