Darby is looking for a forever home!
Darby is a very intelligent, affectionate, active 2-1/2 year old, spayed female Airedale weighing approximately 65 lbs.  She loves to play fetch and loves to show her tricks - sit, down, shake, speak.  She needs work on stay and not jumping on people when she first sees them.  She needs lots of exercise, lots of play time and more obedience training.

Darby's first family gave her a great start in life.  She was much loved and is well socialized.  A change of work schedule made it impossible to give her the exercise and attention she requires and they sadly decided it was in Darby's best interest to find a family who could give her what they could not.

Darby is looking for the person (or persons) who have the time and energy to provide her with the physical and mental exercise she requires.  As long as Darby gets enough exercise, she is very calm and easy in the house. Darby would love to have another large young playful dog as companion, and will require such a companion if her people are gone during the day, but she requires people who want to have a highly interactive pet.  This is not a dog you can stick in the back yard with another dog and expect to amuse herself. We would love to find someone interested in agility.

Darby would not do well with young children, small dogs or senior dogs or people -- she is just too exhuberant.  Well-trained children over the age of 8 with responsible parents would be great playmates for Darby.  Darby might be okay with cats.  We have not tested her with cats, but she doesn't seem to have a highly-developed prey drive.  If you are a cat owner and have previously introduced adult Airedales into your home successfully, let us know.

We require a securely fenced (5 feet or higher) yard and references and only place our dogs as indoor companions.  People who have recent successful experience raising a young Airedale or similar high-energy, large headstrong breed will receive priority consideration.

If you live in the southwest and think that Darby might make a good companion for your family, the next step is to visit our website to read about Airedale Rescue in the southwest and fill out a questionnaire.  www.airedaleterriers.org/swat
